SASANE Sisterhood Trekking and Travel trains female survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, and child marriage & also from underprivileged communities as local tour/trek guides in the Kathmandu and Pokhara areas. We offer travelers a unique cultural immersion experience while combating social issues.
While our travelers come from all walks of life and both sexes, we specifically appeal to travelers looking for a cultural immersion experience as well as female tourists who often times feel safer trekking with female guides.
Dhulikhel not only offers a picturesque view of the Himalayas but also consists of a Newari town, perfect to discover authentic culture and heritage. The town area comprises of old Newari houses that are adorned with intricately carved windows and doors as a proof of the craftsmanship of the local people. The Narayan and Harsiddhi temple are also an example of this woodcraft. Namobuddha is believed to be a place where Buddha in his past life as a prince offered his flesh to a hungry tigress.
Panauti is an ancient city with religious importance consisting of a variety of Buddhist and Hindu religious monuments. It is also considered to be one of the most important medieval sites with a rural Newar settlement. It is the most artistic town after Kathmandu Valley and is also home to the first mask dance of Nepal: ‘Harsiddhi Dance.’
Our friendly SASANE Sisters welcome you in their home, where they will share their story with you. Our experienced guides will introduce you to our tour and share further information about the fitness level recommended for this tour. After around one hour driving past typical Nepali Village, we arrive our destination for today: Panauti . As we travel through Khware Tribeni Ghat, the junction of three rivers; Roshi, Punyamati & an invisible river called Lilawati, our guide will explain you about the ancient history and culture related to the Ghat, Cremation site. You guide will also show you around the Local Newari Settlement, where you can dive into the local lifestyle and culture. Once we reach, Indreshwor Temple Square, the largest and tallest Pagoda styled temple in Nepal, you will be amazed by the ancient architectures and monuments surrounded with statues and many other temples like Unmata Bhairav, Krishna Mandir and so on. After around 20-25 minutes’ drive, at Panauti Community Homestay, the host will be waiting for you to welcome you in Traditional Newari Style. 'Panauti Community Homestay’ welcomes visitors into 17 homes all run by women whose motto is: “Run by Women for Women’s Empowerment”. The host offers Cooking Class and Newari Cultural Program with intent of promoting and preserving its distinct culture with initiative of running homestay in Nepal. During the program Guests can experience the lifestyle of the local people, socialize with the families and get involved in the tradition and have delicious Authentic Nepali Food After an hour Drive from the Homestay, we will reach majestic place of Namobudha, an area of peaceful pilgrimage. As it is located in a slightly elevated land, you can view the Himalayan Range. There are plenty of Buddhist Shrines and Popular Thrangu Tashi Monastery in Namo Buddha where you will find inner peace in making & offering Butter lamp at the Monastery.
