Sisterhood
Mardi Himal is situated in the Annapurna region. This region is filled with vastly diverse natural beauty. So, this trek takes you on a remote route that passes through the pristine forests of rhododendron and oak, fascinating villages, green hills and terraced farms with the stunning view of the Annapurna Range in the west and the Manaslu Range in the east.
You will be greeted and assisted by our female representative from the airport after completion of your airport formalities. After that, we will drive towards SASANE Homestay by our private vehicle. You will be welcomed by our sisters in a traditional way. Overnight in Kathmandu.
After the breakfast we have a city tour to Pashupati Temple, Boudhanath, Kathmandu old market and Kathmandu Durbar Square. After the trip we will drive towards SASANE for lunch. After lunch,we have a momo making class.
On our way to Pokhara, we drive alongside the Trishuli River enjoying the views of small villages, vast terraced farms and massive green hills. Pokhara is rightly famous for its natural beauty as it is surrounded by views of the Annapurna Range including Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre and home to the three stunning lakes: Phewa, Begnas and Rupa.
We begin with a short drive of about an hour to reach Phedi, a small Gurung village. Our adventure starts here with an uphill walk of an hour towards Australian Camp through the rhododendron and oak forests. Locally known as ‘Thulo Kharka’, Australian Camp is a clearing between forests used as a grazing pasture by locals. It has an amazing panoramic view of the whole Annapurna Range. We then continue through the alpine forest to reach Deurali, a village where you can interact with the locals and enjoy the majestic views of the Himalayas
We start our trek on a route that leads us into a deep forest of complete wilderness surrounded by red rhododendrons all over during spring. Our trail is very quiet until we reach a clearing of the Forest Camp, locally known as Kokar. We can see the views of the Annapurna range including Machapuchhre and Hiuchuli from here.
We continue to walk through the dense rhododendron forest as it leads us higher on an uphill path to reach a clearing with fantastic views of surrounding valleys and mountains at a closer range. As we climb you can see the diverse vegetation including mosses, lichen, tree ferns and orchids. Through the woods you can peek at the Hiuchuli, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre which is now much closer. Far below we can also see the Modi Khola Valley.
After a short, steep climb the forest starts getting thinner and the ridge becomes grassier with alpine shrubs and rhododendron bushes now showing up along the trail. You find yourself above the clouds, both Annapurna South and Machapuchhre now seeming close enough to touch. If lucky, you might even cross paths with the colorful Daphne pheasant (national bird of Nepal). You can also see the yaks grazing in the pastures and their sheds.
We finally head towards our main destination. It takes around 5 hours to reach the Mardi Base Camp. The trek today is a bit more difficult than the other days with a steep and uneven climb. At the base camp, we will spend some time savoring the views of the glistening Himalayas. We then descend, returning to the High Camp where you can share your trekking experiences. O/N at High Camp.
After a bit of steep and slippery descent we will reach Sidhing. It is a beautiful traditional village comprising the Gurung Community. We pass through the forest and out onto the terraced fields along the banks of the Modi Khola and over the interesting bridges. We then drive back to Pokhara passing the remote and serene Nepali countryside still away from the much-used trekking routes. O/N at Pokhara.
We start our drive towards Kathmandu. On the way we will visit Bandipur, a place with Newari settlement. Here, you can explore the much preserved Newari culture and have Newari food for lunch. After that we will continue our drive to Kathmandu.
