5-Day Nuwakot Trek

During this 5-day trek, you will be immersed in the local culture as you visit 10 rural villages in the stunning Himalayas in the Kathmandu-Nuwakot and Ghyangphedi regions (Northern part of Nepal, near Langtang National Park). This is ideal for anyone interested in the local Nepali/Tamang culture and participating in local activities, such as traditional cooking and dancing, while also being outdoors. The trek itself is not difficult (medium grade but no hiking experience required) and it is off the beaten path which will provide you with a unique experience that other trekking companies do not offer. During this trip, you will explore the natural scenery of Nepal and experience the cultures and traditions of the people of this beautiful, mountainous region.

Packing List:

  1. • Good hiking shoes
  2. • Pair of trekking poles

Detailed Itinerary:
  1. • Day 1:
    1. o Drive from Kathmandu hotel to Mishra Bhanjyang village (in Nuwakot) in private jeep (5 hours)
    2. o Trek to Ghyangphedi (3-4 hours)
    3. o Overnight at homestay in Ghyangphedi
  1. • Day 2:
    1. o Trek from Ghyangphedi to Upra and Ghyawar (2-3 hours)
      1. • During trek, will be able to observe local farms and even some buffalo
      2. • Stop at a local mill, powered by the river and two traditional windmills
      3. • Try on traditional garments and join the local Tamang people by signing cultural songs and learning their dances
      4. • Learn traditional bamboo basket weaving techniques
      5. • Observe demonstration of local alcohol brewing techniques
    2. o Overnight at homestay in Ghyawar
  2. • Day 3:
    1. o Trek from Ghyawar to Sisipu and Ghyangdada (3-4 hours)
      1. • Visit community’s women group where they are making bracelets, women education classes and local school as well.
      2. • Try a local brew and enjoy live music dancing with the villagers
      3. • Learn how Bakhhu villagers hand make clothing
    2. o Overnight at homestay in Ghyangdada.
  3. • Day 4:
    1. o Trek from Ghyangdada to Hupkhel and Bolung villages(5-6 hours)
      1. • Accompany and assist locals on their morning work
      2. • Enjoy local dances.
      3. • Observe demonstration of traditional healing techniques
      4. • Overnight at homestay in Bolung.
    2. o Overnight at homestay in Ghyangdada.
  4. • Day 5:
    1. o Trek to Mishra Bhanjyang village (2 hours)
    2. o Drive back to Kathmandu in private jeep (5 hours)
